When I saw her sitting on this broken part of the wall, looking at me, I decided to click her. She is usually shy and would’ve at least purred at me angrily, if not scooted off, when she saw me click. But not this time, she was too comfortable sitting there and just chose to tolerate me. That is when I knew she had found her nook!
A nook is a small place which is quiet, maybe a little secluded or sheltered. It is here that you can just sit and not move a limb. Some read or meditate or do a calming favorite activity here. It is a place where you think about the nook.
It is not just a shelter and also not a cocoon. Yet this is where you truly relax.
It always takes time to find the right spot. Sometimes you decide on a place and you end up finding some random things that you had been searching high and low, on some other day, and had given up on it, frustrated. After you’ve chided yourself for not having looked there back then, you continue to check if that spot could be your nook. You, most probably, have to adjust a little at first and try to get comfortable, but once you settle in you don’t want to move out. It kind of grows on you and helps you grow.
The nook is cozy. It makes you feel secure. It energizes you.
Probably Milind Soman found his nook on the Goa beach where he got so comfy that he just shed off everything, that restricted him in any way, and sprinted in his birthday suit.
And probably Kangana Ranaut was more irked coz BMC had razed not just any part of her home but her nook within it.
For me, it’s just the year 2020 that has become my nook in life. It took me a while to adjust to it, but I soon got very comfortable with the quiet and peace that it offered. I honed my culinary skills, caught up on reading, listened to different genres of music, spent all the time with my teenaged daughter, observed and soaked in nature surrounding my home and learnt to ignore the clock and the calendar. I discovered a new me and I love what I found. I, for one, am surely going to slide into the 2020 corner more often in life.
Have you found your nook yet?
